What do we want from a wedding video?

There are two distinct sets of people who commission wedding video, and a wealth of suppliers of this sometimes dubious service.
The first are (“is” probably, as it is usually the bride who wants it) the couple who want all the bells and whistles for their big day, and the video is an integral part of it all. They will want a smattering of the highlights of the day, punctuated by gooey heart shaped transitions from one clip to the next, and will loose it in the generally unwatched section of their DVD collection after showing it to those of their friends who can be convinced to watch. In five years it will probably be too embarrassing to watch anyway.
There is a place for this, and the Customer is always right if this is what is wanted. There are many “specialist” wedding videographers who will be only too pleased to relieve you of a good few hundred pounds for their “expertise”. We are not amongst them.

The second type will want a true record of their marriage, and will want professionally shot footage of the whole service and possibly the speakers at the wedding breakfast. With no gimmicks this will always compare with archive TV footage, (think of the  Royal Wedding.) This film is to be treasured, and will always be enjoyed.
Documentary filmmakers have the necessary skills and experience to record momentous events such as marriages in a relaxed and professional style, always using multiple cameras and the minimum of editing. But it’s not cheap! (though probably cheaper than the “experts” .)

The Figures:

Stills photography, normally up to 50 prints to be kept on a shelf "somewhere" after viewing once. Each image capturing on average. .008 second, total time captured to memory – just under one half of a second. In most cases not capturing the essence of the occasion, but a false sense of what it should be. Nice as a record of faces video footage. As it happens, real and unrehearsed, shot by professional cameramen and edited down to a DVD to be kept in your collection and easily viewed whenever you wish, total time captured about 14000 seconds. Can include messages and good wishes by arrangement. It's a "no-brainer"
